Literature Text

This hourglass of mine tells me things I'd rather not know,
Its innards dripping dripping truths I cannot bear to hear, so
I hid it in my kitchen drawer where it cannot be seen,
But through thick doors I faintly hear it--my senses much too keen.

It taunts and teases from its coop, laughing all the while,
With every drip the truth is clear: I can't sit here docile.
But with every drip the youth I have is much less than before...
I've lost all determination, so I sit here...             waiting            I had more.
                                                        listening            wishing

More time, more money, more love, more life, and maybe even more friends,
My life has gone on far too long and being so close to its end,
I'd rather sit here while I can instead of making amends.

I never truly accepted death but now I have no choice,
The sands of time keep dripping dripping, echoing my voice
They say, "let go for now and you will be set free"
And without the dripping dripping truth I can finally rest in peace.
I wanted to write a poem for RE's prompt of Leaking Hourglass and this is what I came up with. Took a bit to put together, and I'm not completely sure how happy I am about it, but at least I shovelled out something.

Interpret it as you will.
